You know your kid is homesick at college when... you get a hand written letter.

You know your kid is away at college homesick when... In the day of high tech gadgets and instant communication, you get a letter from them in the mail :)

The first sign your kid is homesick when they go off to college... they write letters home!

I remember that I used to like to get mail when I was in school.  I suppose a "care" package is in order one of these days... plenty of snacks to be included for sure :)

Ice Cream Truck - Natural Alarm Clock? Maybe

My teenage son who likes to stay up all night playing video games and what not on the weekend usually sleeps most of the afternoon since he is up all night.  Today I hear the ice cream truck coming down the street.  A moment later my son comes out of his room.  Coincidence?  I think not...

The allure of the ice cream truck is hard to resist...

Teenagers Claiming There Isn't Anything to Eat in the House

Teenagers claiming there isn't anything to eat in the house...  then you check and there is all kinds of food everywhere.  Then you say to them "You mean there is nothing that you want to eat??"

It also goes along the line of coming up with something to complain about when they are bored and have nothing else to do...

Flying Monkeys and it isn't the Wizard of Oz

So my daughter and I were sitting on the porch talking this evening.  Yes, I have a teenager that actually talks to their parent.  She tells me that she had a dream last night that our town was invaded by monkeys.  With jet packs, weapons, and all...    How do you even respond to something like that?

She seems to have this thing with monkeys.  When she was younger, she comes downstairs and says "I may be dreaming because I just woke up, but I swear I just saw two monkeys in the tree in the backyard".    After I laughed uncontrollably she said "Well, the could have escaped from the zoo!"  Regaining my composure, I questioned her on what exactly they looked like.  Convinced that she actually saw something, although most likely not a monkey, I rummaged through some photos on the internet, then showed her a picture.  Bingo!  She apparently saw a couple of the opossums that were living in our neighborhood at the time.

Newfound Adult Freedom - Sometimes It Can Be Difficult to Adjust

The priceless moments just keep rolling out of my now 18 year old daughter. We planned a bike ride tonight and her boyfriend was going along and she asks me if she could stay at his house afterward. I just look at her and said "Why are you asking?" She replies "THIS IS SOOOO COOOOL!!!!"

Breaking Teenage Curfew - Genius in the Making

So on the last night of being 17, my daughter who usually has a curfew of 11pm, has not come yet. Her strategy... to stay at her boyfriends house past 12 because she will be legally allowed to drive home and she won't miss her curfew because she will then be 18 and can come home when she wants... genius!

Teenage Curfew - The Race

Gotta laugh as my almost 18 year old daughter charges in the front door just as the clock turns 11:00, curfew time... she looks at the clock and throws up her arms and yells "Yeesssssss!"
