I Don't Run Away from Things, I Run for ME!

Some say that people who are driven towards endurance sports to the extreme are running away from something. I disagree. When I do endurance sports and go extreme distances I am running FOR something... ME.

There is a great sense of accomplishment when finishing a long run, bike ride or hike.

Running into Fall... Literally.

A chilly, but beautiful night for a run. Managed to run faster than I have been for some reason and got in 7.2 miles. Felt awesome! Except for the part where I was admiring the Halloween decor on a dark street and ran into a pile of leaves... with flashlight in hand. It was off of course. Yeah. That's me... What do these neighbor people think this is?? Fall or something??

Nothing like a run under the moonlight and stars... well almost

Nothing like a run under the moonlight and stars...  well almost.  At one point I'm running along in the dark right down the middle of the street and I feel this spider web catch me straight across both eyes... wtf?  What kind of spider can build a web ALL the way across the street?

And then a while later I'm running along and I pass this guy walking along the sidewalk.  He suddenly starts sprinting and runs past me and stops at the end of the block.  I catch up to him.  He does the same thing again.  I don't know if he was drunk, high, or his cheese just slid off his cracker, but he did it several times until finally, I passed him and heard him start running again, then I hear him say "Oh man", and I didn't see him again.  Like dude, there is a BIG difference between sprinting and distance running...  oh well.  There is one born every minute...

When Giants Run You Down

So you know that scene in Jurrasic Park where the Tyrannosaurus is chasing the jeep... we'll I had a similar feeling on my run this evening. I hear this... THUMP... THUMP... THUMP... THUMP... over the patter of my footsteps... pat... pat... pat... pat... I waited, not wanting to turn around. Then this giant of a guy came striding by me who had to be almost 7ft. He literally took one step for every 3 or 4 of mine! Wow. If there had been rain puddles on the ground I would have been looking for ripples...
